Our Suicide Bereavement Service:
what we do

Supported by Norfolk County Council’s Public Health Department and the NHS Norfolk and Waveney Integrated Care Board (ICB), our Suicide Bereavement Service has been created as a result of a greater need for suicide prevention and complex bereavement support in Norfolk and Waveney.

Who is the Suicide Bereavement Service for?

Those bereaved and affected by suicide who may face a host of conflicting feelings: anger mixed with sadness; love and hate for the person who died; guilt often alternating with anger and blame for self and others.

1:1 Suicide Bereavement Support offers 1:1 emotional and practical support for up to 12 sessions for those bereaved by suicide. Support is aimed at those who are in the first 3 months of loss, or before the inquest.

Group Suicide Bereavement Support is aimed at those bereaved by suicide and over eight weeks offers a safe space where you can connect with others who have had similar experiences, which may help to reduce feelings of isolation.

Throughout 2025/2026, our Suicide Bereavement Service supported 192 people grieving the loss of a loved one to suicide. We offered them space to speak, to be heard, and to begin healing in the wake of unimaginable pain.

Self-referral Form

Our impact

Our Suicide Bereavement Service has continued to see significant growth, receiving over 190 referrals in 2025/26 from a range of sources including self-referrals, coroners, healthcare providers and NSFT.

Referral pathways continue to expand, reflecting both increased awareness of the service and a growing need for timely, specialist bereavement support.

Our suicide bereavement drop-in cafés have grown rapidly and are now regularly supporting 15+ people at our REST Norwich sessions.

We have strengthened our relationship with the University of East Anglia, co-producing and delivering lectures on suicide awareness and grief. This continues to position the service as a trusted voice in suicide bereavement and prevention.
